Nurses

  • LINDA STEWARD

    Linda is a Lead Practice Nurse who joined Chew Medical Practice in April 2023, Linda has a background in primary care nursing and urgent care. Linda now specialises in the Management of Diabetes and minor illness. Linda also provides travel advice, wound care, childhood immunisations and cervical screening.

  • ANN YOUNG

    Ann joined the Practice in December 2013. She came to us from the Sirona Stop Smoking Service, and before that she worked as a practice nurse in Radstock. Ann is experienced in chronic disease management and brings a wide range of nursing skills to the team.

  • CLAIRE GREENHALGH

    Claire joined our team in September 2022, bringing extensive experience from her background in intensive care at Southmead Hospital and acute oncology care at The Christie Hospital. She now specialises in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) care and wound management, in addition to her proficiency in fundamental nursing skills.

Healthcare Assistants

  • ANNE YEATES

    Anne can take blood tests, ECGs, and new patient checks. In addition our HCAs are trained Support to Stop Smoking Advisors and will be pleased to help those who wish to give up smoking.

  • KATE HUNT

    Kate joined the practice in 2019 after leaving the RUH where she worked on surgical and pre-op wards. Kate now undertakes a lot of wound care/post op care.

  • LORRAINE ISAAC

    Lorraine joined the practice February 2014 and is experienced in taking bloods, ECG's, New patient checks, NHS Health checks and Hypertension reviews.

  • BETH THOMSON

    Beth joined the the practice in September 2024. Beth Does Blood tests , ECGS , Injections, Hypertension , Diabetes.

  • TAMARA POOL

    Tamara joined the practice in August 2024 also working in A&E and MAU in the Bristol Royal Infirmary, Tamara can do Blood tests ,ECGS, Wounds care and Hypertension reviews.

    Clinical Pharmacist

    Adam Mainwaring is our Clinical Pharmacist at Chew Medical Practice. Adam can carry out your regular medication reviews and may carry out your Hypertension reviews. He can also help you with any questions or concerns you have with regards to your medication including how to take them, any issues experienced when taking them and any side effect you may experience.

  • KAMILA MALADA

    Pharmacy Technician

    Kamila Malada is our Pharmacy Technician. She will be supporting our Clinical Pharmacist. Kamila can look after your well being along with Pill checks, blood tests, also Medication and Hypertension reviews. She can also help with any medicine related queries or concerns.

  • MATTHEW SMITHERS

    Social Prescriber

    Matt joined the PCN Team in August 2023, having previously worked in South Glos. Council's housing department and NHS Mental Health Services for the previous 10 years. As a Social Prescriber Matt supports patients with social or non-clinical needs such as emotional/mental health support, housing, benefits and financial issues and social isolation. Outside of work Matt is generally found playing the drums and guitar, cooking or camping.

  • JUSTINE DE FRATES

    First Contact Physio

    Justine De Frates is our First Contact Physio who recently joined the team in June 2023 having spent the majority of her career in Secondary Care (Bristol BRI, Bath RUH and Southmead NBT) as senior physiotherapist. The role of the FCP in Primary Care is to assess, diagnose and offer advice to patients with soft tissue, muscle and joint pain, deciding on the most appropriate management pathway.

Practice Management

  • TONIA GRANT

    Practice Manager

    Tonia joined the Practice in August 1997 as a receptionist and having a background in banking took over the practice finances in 2001 and was made Assistant Practice Manager in 2014. Tonia was appointed Practice Manager in July 2019 and has overall responsibility for all aspects of administration and business management. She leads on patient participation, community relations and patient experience and is always interested to hear from users of the surgery. She also plays an active part for the practice in the changes to the NHS, managing the finances and ensuring that new procedures are introduced.

    Deputy & Reception Manager

    Maggs joined the Practice in 2013. She is an experienced administrator and always happy to help with patient needs.

Secretaries

  • HELEN BOYDE

    Helen joined the Practice in March 2004 and supports the Practice from a secretarial perspective, including referrals, also assisting patients who are eligible and in need of transportation to and from hospital.

Reception Team

  • JO RICHES

    The Practice has a team of receptionists who are looked after by our head receptionist Jo. The reception team will be pleased to assist you between the hours of 8am and 6pm. The telephone lines are operated between 8am and 6pm. After this time you should ring 111 to access the Out of Hours service.

Dispensers

  • SALLY ORCHARD

    Dispensary Supervisor

    Sally joined the practice in October 1995 starting work in the dispensary and reception. She is now the dispensary supervisor.

  • MARIA BARTLETT

    Lead Dispenser

    Maria joined the Practice in 2001 and became the Lead Dispenser in 2008. She leads a team of qualified and experienced technicians and dispensers who deal with all aspects of our patient's dispensary requirements

Community Midwives

If delivering in hospital (St. Michaels/Southmead in Bristol, Royal United Hospital Bath or Ashcombe Unit Weston General) you will be cared for in labour by the midwives there. Contact Numbers for maternity units: ST.Michaels - 0117 342 5325, Southmead - 0117 414 6916, RUH - 01225 826 454, Ashcombe Unit Weston General - 01934 636 363 Community midwives provide a homebirth service, with a 24 hour on-call rota, with colleagues from UHB Trust. They run, with the support of an obstetric Physiotherapist, Antenatal/Parentcraft courses. They work very closely with your GPs, Health Visitor and all the hospitals. They are happy to give pre-conceptual advice.

Community Nurses

The District Nurses visit housebound patients to provide a wide range of nursing support. They can be contacted on 0300 247 0200

Counsellors

Patients may refer themselves, or a GP may suggest a referral. If you are stressed, anxious, depressed or unable to cope, you can get help through one to one sessions, computer-based activities, or group courses. Health Visitors

Health Visitors (children under 5). The Health Visiting team for the BANES & Mendip Community Services can be contacted on 01225 613887. They make contact with all new mums or with families who move to the area, and in particular they offer support to families of children with extra needs. They run outreach sessions in local villages – call them for more information.
