Chew Medical Practice provides a comprehensive travel advice and vaccination service, which is also open to people who are not registered at the practice. The practice is a registered Yellow Fever vaccination centre.
Travel abroad continues to be popular, but it is estimated that 50% of British travellers do not seek adequate travel advice, take out necessary travel insurance or research the area they are visiting.
At Chew Medical Practice, you will have an individual travel health consultation which will help you to understand the importance of safe travel to your chosen destination. Before giving any vaccinations, one of our trained nurses will carry out a full individual risk assessment, based on information provided by yourself about the destination, activities to be undertaken, previous and existing health history and using information from the latest online sources.
It is helpful if you can complete a Travel Risk Assessment form in advance and bring it with you to your travel consultation. A copy of the Travel Risk Assessment form can be downloaded HERE.
It is important to make your initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines may have to be ordered specially. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work
Chew Medical Practice is a member of the British Travel Health Association.
Travel advice is provided free of charge. Some vaccinations are free through the NHS, others are given privately and are charged at a competitive market rate. The nurse will advise of any costs in your initial consultation. If you agree to any private vaccinations, an administrative charge of £20 will be added to the cost of the vaccinations. A range of travel products is on sale in the Dispensary, including high strength insect repellent, sun screen and anti-malarial tablets. A price list is available to download HERE
